Research by Students & Faculty

The Northwest Indian College (NWIC) Herbarium has benefited from and contributed to several research projects in the past (addition details appear on the “About” page).

During 2014, students and faculty conducted research associated with a two-year project funded by the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) entitled “Telling the Story of the Land: Revitalization of Traditional Plant Knowledge and Harvest with a View Toward Sustainability.”  Native Environmental Science students Paul Cline (Nooksack-Lummi), Na’ta’ne Miles (Pima-Maricopa), and Renae Stanley (Lummi) worked with Brian D. Compton, Ph.D. (NWIC Science Department) and James R. Freed (Special Forest Products Area Extension Educator with the Department of Natural Resources Forest Practices of Washington State University (WSU) Extension.
