{"id":56,"date":"2012-05-10T22:17:39","date_gmt":"2012-05-10T22:17:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.nwic.edu\/swinomish\/?p=56"},"modified":"2012-05-10T22:19:28","modified_gmt":"2012-05-10T22:19:28","slug":"april-showers-bring-may-flowers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.nwic.edu\/swinomish\/2012\/05\/10\/april-showers-bring-may-flowers\/","title":{"rendered":"April showers&#8230;bring May flowers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.nwic.edu\/swinomish\/files\/2012\/05\/trasect2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-59\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.nwic.edu\/swinomish\/files\/2012\/05\/trasect2-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"158\" height=\"210\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.nwic.edu\/swinomish\/files\/2012\/05\/trasect2-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/blogs.nwic.edu\/swinomish\/files\/2012\/05\/trasect2.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 158px) 100vw, 158px\" \/><\/a>The May flowers are blooming at our site.\u00a0 Here we see the Camas plants that have been in bloom this week at Swinomish.\u00a0\u00a0It was a perfect time to be talking about flowers and flower parts\u00a0in the <strong>Plant Biology <\/strong>class.\u00a0\u00a0It was also a great time to discuss the plants we utilize for carbohydrates in the <strong>Honor the Gift of\u00a0Food <\/strong>class&#8211;tubers, grains and bulbs.\u00a0 We\u00a0discussed cultivated grains, like wheat and barley,\u00a0and\u00a0the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slowfoodusa.org\/index.php\/programs\/ark_product_detail\/ozette_potato1\/\">Ozette potato <\/a>as well as the harvesting of wild bulbs, like Camas lily.<\/p>\n<p>For the weekly potluck we had a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.whfoods.com\/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&amp;dbid=49\">Beet<\/a> salad, that was delicious and colorful.
