{"id":36,"date":"2012-04-25T00:07:41","date_gmt":"2012-04-25T00:07:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.nwic.edu\/swinomish\/?p=36"},"modified":"2012-04-26T23:26:23","modified_gmt":"2012-04-26T23:26:23","slug":"farm-systems-tour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.nwic.edu\/swinomish\/2012\/04\/25\/farm-systems-tour\/","title":{"rendered":"Farm systems tour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today the <strong>Honor the Gift of Food <\/strong>class toured several Skagit Valley farms to learn <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.nwic.edu\/swinomish\/files\/2012\/04\/trip11.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-38\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.nwic.edu\/swinomish\/files\/2012\/04\/trip11-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"120\" height=\"120\" \/><\/a>more about local food production and food systems.\u00a0 We visited Kai at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hedlinfarms.com\/\">Hedlin Farms <\/a>and learned about their interesting and diverse 400-acre mixed vegetable, fruit and flower farming systems\u00a0and we discussed their various markets, including their CSA (Community Supported Agriculture), farmstand, wholesale and farmer&#8217;s markets.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.nwic.edu\/swinomish\/files\/2012\/04\/trip52.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-46\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.nwic.edu\/swinomish\/files\/2012\/04\/trip52-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"105\" height=\"105\" \/><\/a>Then we visited Christie Stein at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slowfoodskagit.org\/Slow_Food_Skagit\/CSA_.html\">Riversong Farm<\/a>, a beautiful 5-acre CSA farm.
