{"id":132,"date":"2010-12-09T17:53:03","date_gmt":"2010-12-09T17:53:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.nwic.edu\/nesinternshipopportunities\/"},"modified":"2012-01-14T15:04:14","modified_gmt":"2012-01-14T15:04:14","slug":"what-is-an-internship","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.nwic.edu\/nesinternshipopportunities\/what-is-an-internship\/","title":{"rendered":"What Is An Internship?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Internships vary in many aspects from one situation to another, but they may share the following characteristics:<\/p>\n<p>Internships may be paid, unpaid (sometimes called externships) or partially paid; taken for credit or not; and may occur at NWIC or elsewhere.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>They provide opportunities for students to gain experience in their field, determine if they have an interest in a particular career, help to create a network of contacts and prepare students for further studies or employment opportunities.<\/li>\n<li>They should represent substantive experiences related to the research and training of BS-NES students.<\/li>\n<li>They may be part-time or full-time.
