Riccia fluitans is a liverwort (sometimes called crystalwort) that occurs widely in fresh water. It is described in association with other common floating plants and in relation to water quality by the Washington State Department of Ecology. Mosses such as Fontinalis antipyretica and Sphagnum spp. also are associated with fresh water quality by the Washington State Department of Ecology.
